A better and faster experience in scripting.

Version 23 marks a major step forward in usability for engineers who script and automate their workflows. This release focuses on making coding smoother, faster, and more integrated than ever before.

Seamless integration with Visual Studio Code

Version 23 is a leap forward in ease-of-use for programmers with our new Visual Studio Code. Take advantage of tools such as Intellisense for suggested code prompts to speed your code generation.

LUSAS now embeds Visual Studio Code directly within the environment, bringing modern programming tools to your fingertips. Enjoy:

  • Full debugging support, including breakpoints and step-through execution.
  • IntelliSense for smart code completion, parameter hints, and inline documentation.
  • A familiar, efficient workflow for engineers accustomed to coding in VS Code.

Automatic Python installation

Python has become the de facto scripting language for engineering applications. To make getting started effortless, LUSAS now automatically installs Python during setup - ensuring compatibility and removing the need for manual setup. Perfect for users who don’t already have Python installed.

GitHub script repository

Explore our public
GitHub repository featuring dozens of ready-to-use example scripts — from simple geometry creation (points, lines, surfaces, volumes) to advanced parametric structures such as:

  • Warren truss rail bridges
  • Twin steel girder systems
  • Precast Super-T beam bridges
  • Retaining walls and more...

These examples are designed to inspire and accelerate your own parametric modelling workflows.

A stronger Grasshopper plug-in

Developed in parallel with Version 23, the Grasshopper plug-in has seen major improvements — offering more flexibility and functionality for both structural and geotechnical engineers.

New components include:

  • Plane stress, plane strain, grillage, and axisymmetric models
  • Volumetric models
  • Activation and deactivation attributes for staged construction analysis

Together, these upgrades pave the way for more automated, efficient, and data-driven design processes.

Direct export to Excel

By popular demand, results can now be exported directly to Excel, bypassing intermediate table exports within LUSAS. This enhancement significantly reduces data transfer time and improves the workflow for engineers handling large datasets - a small change with a big impact.

Updated Tekla and Revit plug-ins

Our Tekla and Revit plug-ins (available free of charge) have been updated to support the latest BIM releases:

  • Tekla 2025
  • Revit 2026

This ensures smooth, direct model export from BIM to LUSAS, maintaining compatibility with the latest industry tools.
